There are three Stemoscope Models: Stemoscope, Stemoscope II and Stemoscope PRO. Stemoscope is the legacy model that was not designed as a medical device. If you expect to use the device for non-medical purpose, for example, use the device to listen to heartbeat sounds for fun, you may choose this model. Stemoscope II is the second generation of Stemoscope. It was designed as a formal medical device and cleared by FDA. Some hardware improvement was made compared with the legacy model. If you plan to use the device for medical purpose, you may choose this model. Stemoscope PRO is the smart wireless stethoscope designed as a formal medical device and cleared by FDA. Compared with Stemoscope II, Stemoscope PRO has additional functions and features such as direct transmission to Bluetooth earphones and noise cancelling, and is more suitable for professional use. If you are healthcare professional, you may choose this model.
For Stemoscope II and Stemoscope PRO, please use the DrStemo App, which is the companion app cleared by FDA as part of the medical devices. For the legacy Stemoscope, please use Stemoscope app, which is not a part of medical device.
Yes. Depending on the Stemoscope model and your Buletooth hearing aids model, Stemoscope can transmit sounds to your hearing aids directly or indirectly. Please refer to STEMOSCOPE PRO - BEST STETHOSCOPE FOR HEARING IMPAIRED for details.
No. Stemoscope doesn’t support Bluetooth pairing, so please do not try to pair it in the system settings of your phone. Stemoscope doesn’t require Bluetooth pairing to work. It is different from a Bluetooth earphones or a Bluetooth speaker. When you add a Stemoscope device in the app, the information is saved in the app to set link with your Stemoscope device.
No. The diaphragm can’t be removed. The diaphragm, together with the chamber, amplifies the sounds. If you remove it, you may hear very low volume or even no body sounds.
Generally, the bell mode is good for listening to heartbeats which are mainly made of very low frequency sounds. The diaphragm mode is good for listening to breath sounds because the heartbeats sounds are weaken in this mode. If you use the bell mode to listen to the breath sounds, some breath sounds with a higher frequency could be filtered off. With frequency range increasing, more ambient sounds can be heard through the Stemoscope.
Since most sounds sensed by Stemoscope have a very low frequency, earphones favoring bass sounds (low frequency sounds or low pitch sounds) are preferred. For Bluetooth earphones, we recommend Apple Airpods Pro, or any other TWS earphones with noise cancelling. Most headphones that generally cover the ears perform very well. While for general wired earphones, the original earphones coming with the iPhones or Samsung phones also perform well.
The loudness or the volume is determined by several factors. Firstly, the source of the sounds can be weak, depending on what you are listening to. Secondly, different phones have different audio output power level. For example, an iPod touch outputs higher power level than an iPhone. Thirdly, the performance of earphones varies quite a lot. You may try a headphone for better performance.
Human ears have different sensitivity to different audio frequency. This is generally described by a hearing curve. In generally, human ears are less sensitive to very low frequency (pitch) sounds. With the same power level (Phone volume level), we feel the low frequency sounds are less loud. We may increase the phone volume to feel the low frequency sounds are loud enough and when we do not use Stemoscope adjust the phone volume to the original level.
Human body sounds are most times full of bass (low pitch or low frequency) elements. The build-in speaker in a phone is generally not good at playing these bass sounds. Earphones performs much better than build-in speakers.
Stemoscope is designed from hardware to software to protect your data and privacy. Firstly, there is a physical switch on Stemoscope. When it is switched off, the power supply is cuff off physically and there is no opportunity for the Stemoscope to sense sounds when it is off. Secondly, the data transfer between a Stemoscope and your phone is encrypted. Thirdly, the data are saved in your phone or pad and you have full control on your audio data. It is similar to those photos you take and you have full control on them.
No. Each time, a phone can only receive sounds from a single Stemoscope. If you want to record from multiple Stemoscopes, you may need to use multiple phones.
Yes. The Stemoscope provides many options for you to share or export the audio files.
The audio signals are saved in a non-compressed “.wav” file (PCM format).
Currently the App only runs on iOS and Android. If you want to connect Stemoscope to a computer, you need to use a phone/pad to bridge. By doing so, the Stemoscope transmits signals to your phone and the phone can transmit the processed signals to your computer via your phone audio jack and an audio cable.
